Well, what a great initiative of our local Landcare in securing the services of a large number of students from Wonthaggi Secondary College to make a significant difference to our community through the planting of trees. On Friday 17th August we attended the Woolamai Race Track and worked our Rotary BBQ trailer to its absolute limit to provide a heaty feed for 150 students and volunteers who had worked up an appetite by planting 16,000 trees on a local property – what a fantastic effort and a great way for Rotary to get involved. We followed up with our BBQ skills again on Friday 24th August, this time in Archies Creek where 100 students and volunteers planted a further 10,000 trees on another property. We were better prepared this time and precooked a large number of sausages and hamburgers before the hungry hoards arrived for a feed in the old sheering shed. Special thanks to all the members who helped out with the BBQ and thanks to Landcare for again getting us involved in such an important project.
